Biography
Born and raised in Izmir, Türkiye, Semih started his music studies at a young age with music theory and piano lessons. He started composing at a young age and won first prize for a high school song competition. In 1995 he moved to Seattle and has been there since.
Education
Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program. Studied the art and craft of film music and orchestration, with 2-time Emmy award winning film composer Hummie Mann. Graduated in 2001 by composing, orchestrating and recording a full orchestral score for a short film.
Seattle Film Institue. Graduated in 2005 by completing his short film YELLOW, shot on 16mm film, and nominated for several awards.
Doctor of Philosophy, molecular and cellular biology, 2010, University of Washington.
Master of Science, molecular and cellular biology, 2007, University of Washington.
Bachelor of Science in microbiology, 1998, University of Washington.
Film music experience
Composed and orchestrated music for 25 films. Music recorded by live symphonies or produced in own film music studio using latest technologies. Winner of 3 film music awards. In addition, nominated for 2 film music awards and 2 other film awards.
Other music experience
Instruments: Piano, guitar, Turkish oud.
Studied Turkish music theory and oud with award winning Turkish oud virtuoso Münir Nurettin Beken.
Studied jazz muzic theory and piano with Fred Radke at the North Seattle Community College.
